Glamour and Grace – A Great Northern Photo Shoot

The Great Northern Wedding Show demands a Great Northern photoshoot, with an enviable collection of great Northern wedding professionals and a great Northern wedding venue! Our chosen venue was the spectacular and imposing Leighton Hall nr
Carnforth, Lancashire. This historic home is a genuinely stunning location for
exclusive and luxurious wedding ceremonies, a real fairy tale choice. With
towers, turrets and 80 acres of beautiful grounds, this is the kind of enchanting
and romantic location that brides dream of.

When you choose Leighton Hall as your wedding venue, the house and
gardens are yours exclusively for the day. Leighton Hall’s amazing setting
guarantees beautiful photographs throughout their extensive grounds including
the wall garden, the rose lawn, and the extensive landscape across their
parkland. These all provided the perfect setting for our photo shoot which was enriched with 1920’s glamour & grace.

Our bridal gowns were kindly supplied by Lulu Browns Bridal Boutique. Lulu Browns is based within the pretty Lancashire village of Whalley and was recently voted the North’s Best Bridal Retailer. Owner Helen Lord has spent the last 9 years creating a beautiful bridal boutique which is a haven for discerning brides to be, hand picking bridal gowns from leading designers around the world. Their designer brands include Justin Alexander, Kenneth Winston, Blue by Enzoani, Eliza Jane Howell, Enzoani, Lillian West and accessories from leading ranges including Malis Henderson and Miranda Templeton.

Our models on the day were real life husband & wife Liz and Danny, recently married themselves just a few weeks before this photo shoot. Liz’s hair was styled by Duncan Fisher:

“It was brilliant to be a part of the Little White Books cover shoot for
Issue 11. As a specialist in bridal hair I love to work with the whole bridal
look. On the day of the shoot I arrived at Leighton Hall (a very stunning
venue) and as soon as I saw the beautiful gowns from Lulu Browns Bridal
Boutique I instantly knew the look I wanted to create!

“I began by setting the models hair on ghd irons to create curl
throughout the hair using ‘Schwarzkopf Session Label flexible hold hairspray’. I
love their Session Label range as it is used on the runway of New York and
Paris fashion week and does not make hair look overburdened with product. I
then brushed the curls out into gorgeous ‘Hollywood Glamour’ style waves; these
had to be pinned into place and set to hold for a short time. A stunning
headpiece was adorned to complement the look, and shine spray was added for
ultimate glossy hair.”

Our make up artist on the day was Kerry Baker:

“Taking inspiration from Hollywood icons from the 40’s and 50’s, I
designed a look for our model Liz which exudes old school glamour. The gowns
from Lulu Browns Bridal Boutique were absolutely stunning, and when wearing
such statement pieces it is really important that your dress, hair and make-up
all complement one another.

“Liz has striking features and, having been one of my own brides, I knew
she would look amazing with a more dramatic bridal make up. I defined the eyes
using an ashy taupe shadow to colour the socket, winged out a black gel liner
to frame her eyes, and of course finished off with a pair of voluptuous lashes.
To create a velvety complexion, NARS Fine Finishing powder was lightly buffed
into the skin over the foundation. Brows were defined using Illamasqua brow gel
and cheeks sculpted using Bobbi Brown illuminating bronzing powder.

“And of course, no Hollywood icon would be complete without her red lip.
To prevent feathering it’s really important to line the lips with a pencil
which matches the lip colour. Liz is wearing Illamasqua lip pencil in Creative,
lip colour in Drench and a touch of sheer gloss for a touch of extravagance.”

Red Floral Architecture brought along an abundance of the most stunning
flora on the day, a rich collection of succulents and icy winter wonderland
whites. Just beautiful. Their vision and creativity exceeded everyone’s expectations
on this shoot and the results are just phenomenal, all expertly shot by
photographer Mick Cookson. Red floral architecture has gained itself a
reputation as a highly stylised and glamorous contemporary flower studio
specialising in traditional, off the wall, modern and contemporary floral
designs.

Mick Cookson is an experienced wedding photographer who shoots in a
modern, relaxed and unobtrusive style. We love the fact that his images all have
a film-feel, a real ‘hint of cinema’ about them.

Special thanks to Jon Beaumont at Slaters Menswear in Preston who supplied Danny’s suit for the shoot. Slaters have an established reputation for providing a highly reliable, affordable and personalised formal hire service. Whatever the occasion, they know you want to look your best. Their experienced staff will help you pick the right outfit and get you looking good!
