Dramatic Metallics – a styled shoot by Kerry Baker MUA

As a make-up artist, I
am always looking for ways to inspire my brides and push the boundaries with
what is considered to be “traditional” bridal make up. One of the biggest
trends we are seeing in the wedding industry at the moment is the use of ‘mixed
metallics’. Usually such materials are incorporated into the colour scheme and
used to decorate the venue, creating a decadent and lavish feel to the styling.

This is very much a
concept shoot, integrating the theme of mixed metallics into both the venue and
the models styling. The make up is extreme, the hair is big, but it really
demonstrates how you can incorporate elements from your wedding day into areas
you might not originally consider. For example, the bouquets created by the
talented team at Red Floral include metallic elements in different textures.
The head pieces and shoulder jewellery by H F Couture all complement the tones
used in the bouquets, creating a cohesive, opulent colour palette which tones
perfectly with the make up.

It’s a super creative
high-fashion look, showing you how it is possible to theme your make up with
other elements, albeit in a very extreme way! Here, the dark smokey eye, nude
lip and stong contour really complements the use of metallic flake on the skin.
To make the look more wearable, try using metallic accent colour blended into a
smokey eye. Or, you could use the colour of the bridesmaid dresses, or a flower
from your bouquet to inspire your make up. For example, soft dusky pink
continues to be popular choice in summer and can look stunning when used as an
eye, cheek or lip colour.

Our photographer was
Teresa C for the shoot, who produced a stunning set of images which I hope you
will enjoy. I also had help from some amazingly creative friends on this
shoot (please see bottom of page for details) which took place at Eaves Hall, a
magnificent Georgian country house near Clitheroe.
