Brockholes provided a beautiful natural blank canvas for our Wedding Day

Shea & Jonathan Dyer tied the knot at Brockholes Nature Reserve, Preston in July 2017.

"After proposing on holiday, we wasted no time looking up locations for our big day. We had a blank canvas, as neither of us had really had a solid picture of how our wedding day was going to look. I think this is what led us to look at alternative venues. We came across Brockholes Nature Reserve while looking up alternative wedding venue in Lancashire online. It seemed to tick a lot of boxes for us both so, without hesitation, we emailed the venue and arranged a visit upon our return from holiday. We fell in love with the venue at first sight, neither of us had ever been to Brockholes before, and we were surprised by the size and beauty of the place.

We had three themes that we tried to interweave into the wedding. The colour scheme was a blend of blues and natural colours, we also used the theme of ‘travel’ and ‘dragonflies’!

Our guests enjoyed cocktails followed by a three-course wedding breakfast and in the evening the Brockholes team served-up a hog roast outside on the floating village.

In the evening we had a combination of a DJ and Ceilidh band. We started the evening by having some nice laid-back music until most of our guests had arrived. The Ceilidh band then made everyone come to the front of the venue and get involved in dances. Finally, the DJs ended our evening with some brilliant songs that had the bride and the bridesmaids dancing away until the small hours.

We were fortunate to have an incredible venue that managed to give our guests privacy and intimacy despite being open to the public all day. We knew that Brockholes wouldn’t let us down, as we ourselves had visited the venue during someone else’s wedding. Finally, and most importantly, because Brockholes is a not for profit organisation, we knew that the money we were spending on the venue was going back into the park. The fact that our wedding was in some way benefiting our local wildlife environment made us feel even better."
